  • Vandelay Companies Expands to San Antonio with Hudson House and Jack & Harry’s in Alamo Heights

Texas-based hospitality and investment powerhouse Vandelay Companies has officially announced a major expansion into the San Antonio market, bringing two of its most celebrated culinary concepts to the historic Alamo Heights neighborhood. The dual-restaurant project will anchor the ground floor of a high-profile adaptive reuse development located at 5307 Broadway. The transformative project, spearheaded by San Antonio-based Ridgemont Properties, marks a significant milestone for the local commercial landscape, bridging historical preservation with modern upscale dining.

According to the development schedule, Hudson House is slated to make its San Antonio debut in late spring of 2027, followed shortly by the summer 2027 opening of Jack & Harry’s. Both establishments will occupy prime street-level real estate side by side, transforming a former medical facility into a vibrant retail and dining destination that promises to reshape the local culinary scene.

    A Historic Transformation on Broadway

The ambitious project at 5307 Broadway involves the complete reimagining of the former Nix Health building. Originally constructed in 1965, the two-story structure is undergoing a meticulous conversion by Ridgemont Properties to transition the property away from its decades-long medical use and back toward its original retail and commercial roots.

A central feature of the renovation includes the reopening of the building’s historic breezeway, an architectural element designed to enhance pedestrian engagement along the bustling Broadway Corridor. While the ground floor will be dedicated to the high-end dining experiences provided by Vandelay Companies, the upper level will house modern professional office spaces, creating a mixed-use environment tailored to the evolving needs of the Alamo Heights community.

Trebes Sasser, Jr., Vice President of Ridgemont Properties, Inc., emphasized the collaborative nature of the undertaking. He credited the City of Alamo Heights for its forward-thinking support of transformative corridor developments, and acknowledged SHOP Companies for facilitating the partnership with top-tier food and beverage operators.

"This development has truly been a team effort," Sasser stated. "Hudson House is one of the state’s most recognized food and beverage brands, while Jack & Harry’s fills a real need for elevated dining in Alamo Heights. We’re proud to have both anchoring the development."

Hudson House Brings East Coast Elegance to South Texas

Occupying approximately 6,360 square feet of the ground-level space, Hudson House will introduce its signature East Coast-inspired neighborhood dining concept to San Antonio. Since launching its inaugural location in 2017, the brand has expanded rapidly across Texas, earning a loyal following for its lively atmosphere, sophisticated aesthetic, and dependable appeal across lunch, brunch, dinner, and happy hour services.

The restaurant is widely celebrated for several distinct culinary offerings, most notably its award-winning cheeseburger and a robust raw bar program featuring daily shipments of fresh East Coast oysters and premium sushi selections. Additionally, Hudson House has cultivated a reputation for serving what it markets as the "World’s Coldest Martini," dispensed on tap and rigorously chilled to a crisp 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

Design-wise, the Alamo Heights interior will mirror the understated elegance of traditional New England dining institutions. Patrons can expect an environment characterized by warm leather booths, a classic wraparound bar, and a dedicated sit-down raw bar designed to foster an intimate yet energetic communal atmosphere.

    Jack & Harry’s Makes First Out-of-Dallas Debut

Adjacent to Hudson House, Jack & Harry’s will claim approximately 5,950 square feet, marking the brand’s first expansion outside of its original Dallas market. Introduced in 2024, Jack & Harry’s quickly established itself as a premier destination for upscale dining, drawing inspiration from the rich culture, historic cuisine, and renowned hospitality of New Orleans.

The menu heavily emphasizes French-influenced culinary techniques, dry-aged steaks, premium Gulf seafood, and a curated French-forward wine program, all complemented by a selection of Bourbon Street-inspired cocktails. True to its cultural roots, the San Antonio interior will incorporate signature design elements including imported New Orleans brick, warm wood paneling, and antique finishes carefully selected to evoke the unmistakable ambiance of the French Quarter.

    Strategic Vision and Market Alignment

For Vandelay Companies, the decision to enter the San Antonio market represents a calculated step in a broader, long-term growth strategy. Hunter Pond, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Vandelay Companies, noted that the Alamo Heights location was chosen deliberately after years of evaluating the market.

"San Antonio has been on our radar for a long time, and Alamo Heights felt like the right place for us," Pond explained. "Broadway has a strong sense of history and a real neighborhood identity, which is something we value. Bringing Hudson House and Jack & Harry’s here together gives us the opportunity to introduce two distinct experiences while becoming part of a community we’ve admired for years."

Vandelay’s corporate expansion model focuses on identifying resilient, culturally rich neighborhoods and investing heavily in the long-term viability of each establishment. Rather than chasing transient trends, the hospitality group aims to embed its concepts into the fabric of the communities they serve, positioning both restaurants as enduring local institutions.

    Economic and Community Implications

The arrival of Vandelay Companies in Alamo Heights is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the local municipality. Beyond the immediate revitalization of the long-dormant 5307 Broadway property, the project will create dozens of direct and indirect jobs across culinary, service, management, and administrative sectors.

Furthermore, the introduction of nationally recognized brands like Hudson House and an acclaimed regional concept like Jack & Harry’s is anticipated to drive increased foot traffic to the Broadway Corridor. This uptick in commercial activity is likely to benefit neighboring retail businesses, bolstering the local economy and reinforcing Alamo Heights as a premier destination for regional diners.

As planning and construction progress, Vandelay Companies and Ridgemont Properties have indicated that additional updates regarding specific menu highlights, interior architectural details, and finalized opening dates will be released publicly as the 2027 launch windows approach.
